Quality Assurance is an ever more integral part of the way the business world works and implementation of the ISO 9001 standard into your business practices will demonstrate to clients that it is your aim to provide and maintain a quality product or service. The adoption of the ISO 9001 Quality standard has helped our clients to improve their capability, develop their understanding and application of their procedures.

‘Our experience is your assurance’.

ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems Standard

This standard was first published in 1994 and revised in 2000, 2008 and the current revision is 2015; it describes the essential contents of a Quality Management System based on the established Plan/Do/Check/Act principle which is also implemented in the ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems and ISO 14001 the Environmental Management Systems standards. If your organisation is already certified to one or more of these management systems, then it also provides the opportunity to integrate / merge the systems.

10 steps to ISO 9001 certification

Step 1 - Prepare a Quality Policy Statement

We will provide guidance and give examples for this.

Step 2 - Establish a number of Quality Objectives

Establish a number of Quality Objectives – These should be simple targets, which will specifically benefit your organisation and or the customer, against which performance can be easily measured;
examples:

• Deliver on Time;
• Attain minimum 90% Customer Satisfaction;
• Less than 5% rejects;
• Issue reports within 5 working days;
• Etc.

Step 3 - Define the Processes

There is no longer an obligation in the standard to have a manual or documented procedures however there is a requirement to document the organisation’s scope

Step 4 - “Mandatory” procedures will be Required

Develop the sequence and interaction of the organisation’s processes

Step 5 - Agree Roles, Responsibilities and Accountabilities for Personnel

Develop agreed roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for personnel involved in the quality management system

Step 6 - Conduct Internal Audits

This action will need to be performed internally by your own staff or we can undertake this task on your behalf. If you choose the former, we can provide the necessary accredited Internal Auditor Training to provide you with the knowledge and skills to achieve this aim.

Step 7 - Establish a Corrective Action System

and be able to demonstrate that you are acting on problems identified through your internal audits, customer complaints or where non-conformance has been identified. The system permits, where applicable, your employees to establish non-conformity and to resolve these issues through application of the management systems procedures; Non Conformity and Corrective / Preventive Action.

Step 8 - Conduct Management Reviews

We can support in the establishment of a programme for the review meetings, the list of inputs to be reviewed by management, assist with the measurement and analysis of the findings recorded leading to the demonstration that the processes have resulted in the establishment of continual improvement.

Step 9 - We can conduct a Full “Mock Assessment”

and identify any weaknesses or gaps in your system before you undergo assessment by your chosen Certification Body.

Final Step - Assessment by your Certification Body and award of ISO 9001 certification.

ISO 9001 Training Packages

Our sister company QHSE Scotland  offers three ISO 9001 training courses in relation to this standard which complement the development of your ISO 9001 management systems , or can  assist in the ongoing management and maintenance  of an existing system.

The first is the ISO 9001 Foundation course which explains the standard and how it relates to business. It’s an excellent introduction to the standard and allows the participants to determine the standards specific relevance to their own business and how they will apply the standard successfully.

The second is the ISO 9001 Internal Auditor course for those organisations who are implementing the standard for their business. To achieve this aim there will be the requirement to set up and maintain their system and to undertake their own Internal Audits. This course will provide the knowledge and competence to conduct effective internal audit programmes.

The third is the ISO 9001 Lead Auditor course for those organisations who require to implement, manage and maintain the standard for their business. To achieve this aim there will be the requirement to set up, maintain and improve their system and to undertake and lead their own Internal Audits. In addition, a Lead Auditor will be qualified to conduct external supplier audits when they achieve IRCA Lead Auditor status (note: a Lead Auditor will require to observe and lead a number of External Audits prior to achieving Lead Auditor status in addition to the IRCA certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor course completion).
